Red Hot Chili Peppers find creativity in happiness
Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith has his own theory about why the band generated two CDs worth of new material for their ninth studio album, Stadium Arcadium. Smith told us that he thinks it's because the members of the band have never felt better on the personal front: "Just really in the last year or so, or year and a half, everyone was really happy, like, with their home life, their girlfriends or wives. I'd just been married, had a baby the first weekend of the record, Flea (bassist) newly in love, Anthony (Kiedis, singer) has a steady girlfriend, John (Frusciante, guitarist) has a steady girlfriend, so we were all kind of in this good place that in turn just made us, you know...if you're happy, you're healthy, you just want to bring that into your work."
The Chili Peppers must be really happy, because they actually wrote three albums' worth of material, but decided to keep Stadium Arcadium to a two-CD release.
Stadium Arcadium has sold nearly 1.4 million copies in the U.S. alone since its arrival last May.
The Chili Peppers were nominated for four MTV Europe Music Awards and three American Music Awards last week.
The band continues its North American tour on Monday, September 25th and Tuesday, September 26th, with a two-night stand in Toronto, Canada.
"Tell Me Baby" is the latest single from Stadium Arcadium.
