Second Jet album almost grounded by tragedy

Jet faced many challenges while making its second album, Shine On, but perhaps the biggest for frontman Nic Cester and his brother, drummer Chris Cester, was getting over the death of their father. Chris Cester told us that their dad's passing almost meant the end of Jet as well: "There was times when, like, Nic really hadn't exorcised his demons yet and dealt with the loss of his father -- and I hadn't either, but my method of dealing with it was to go straight to Los Angeles and start writing the record. It was the only thing I could think of to fill the giant black hole that losing my father left. And he (Nic) wasn't ready, and it was really frustrating, and definitely really difficult to look into the future and see where Jet fit into it."

John Cester passed away from cancer in August of 2004.

Shine On arrives on October 3rd and follows the band's platinum 2003 debut, Get Born.

Jet is currently on a 10-city tour of North America that brings it to Chicago on Monday, September 25th.
