Supernova changes name...sort of
Supernova, the manufactured band from the CBS-TV reality series Rock Star, has followed a court order to change its name...sort of. According to RealityBlurred.com, the group's new moniker is Rock Star Supernova, which was also the official name of the series' second season. An Epic Records spokesperson told Reuters, "It's going to be Rock Star Supernova. That's their actual name." The quartet had to make the change after a San Diego judge approved a preliminary injunction filed by a California punk trio called Supernova. The judge barred the TV band from "performing rock and roll music, or recording, or selling rock and roll music recordings under the same (name)."
Rock Star Supernova features ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee and singer Lukas Rossi, who was selected on the show's September 13th season finale, having outlasted 15 other applicants for the job.
The band has posted two new songs online, called "It's All Love" and "Be Yourself and 5 Other Cliches." Both are likely to appear on the group's debut album, due out on November 21st.
Rock Star Supernova will make its live debut on December 31st in Las Vegas and begin a tour on January 16th in Hollywood, Florida. The Panic Channel, featuring Rock Star co-host Dave Navarro, will be the opening act.
