Bob Dylan says that he's his own best producer

Bob Dylan says that after years of sharing the decision-making with various producers, he's finally comfortable producing his own records. Dylan talked to Rolling Stone about his new critically acclaimed album Modern Times, and explained that, "I didn't feel like I wanted to be over produced anymore. I felt like I've always produced my own albums anyway, except I just had someone there in the way."

Dylan, who's produced several of his own albums before, including his last project, 2001's Love And Theft, and his 1975 landmark Blood On The Tracks album, added that, "I feel like nobody's gonna know how I should sound except me anyway, nobody knows what they want out of the players except me."

Over the years he has worked with such notable producers as John Hammond, Tom Wilson, Bob Johnson, Jerry Wexler, Chuck Plotkin, Jeff Lynne, Daniel Lanois, and Don Was.

As a producer, he has been going under the pseudonym Jack Frost on his recordings since 1997's Time Out Of Mind album.

Dylan's Modern Times is his first Number One album in the US since 1976's Desire.

Bob Dylan kicks off his North American tour on October 11th in Vancouver at the PNE Pacific Coliseum.
