Deftones tour nearly derailed by video golf game
Deftones drummer Abe Cunningham told AOL Music late last week that the band was almost prevented from touring because of guitarist Stephen Carpenter's addiction to the Tiger Woods video golf game. Cunningham explained, "He was obsessed...It got so bad that we weren't going to be able to go on tour if he wasn't going to be able to get his fucking good Internet signal each day." Carpenter himself told us that he was glued to the game, but has now set his sights on becoming a real golf champion: "I played the Tiger Woods video game from, like, 2000 to 2005. But November 1st of 2005 is when I got to sit there and play every day, in one place, for almost, you know, the next six months, and basically what I'm trying to say is I was the Number One player online for Tiger Woods in 2005. That just wasn't enough. I was like, 'You know, this is great, I got bragging rights for this and all that, but it's time I go beat Tiger for real.'"
Carpenter has been playing golf for real for much of the last year, and hopes to make it to the PGA. Tiger Woods better look over his shoulder.
Deftones will begin a headlining U.S. tour on October 27th in Dallas, Texas in support of its fifth studio album, Saturday Night Wrist, which arrives on Halloween (October 31st).
Saturday Night Wrist follows the group's self-titled 2003 album and includes the new single "Hole In The Earth."
