Eric Clapton's legendary "Blackie" guitar recreated in limited edition run
Fender is recreating Eric Clapton's Stratocaster named "Blackie" in a limited run that will go on sale in November. The guitars are exact duplicates of his primary instrument from the '70s and '80s on albums including Slowhand, 461 Ocean Boulevard, and Just One Night, and they include reproduced burn marks on the headstock from Clapton's cigarettes, and places where the finish is worn away to the bare wood. Only 185 of the guitars will be available in the U.S., and Guitar Center, which bought the original Blackie at auction in 2004 for $959,500, is the exclusive retailer. The new Blackies have a suggested price of $24,000, and a portion of the proceeds goes to Clapton's Crossroads Centre Antigua substance-abuse facility.Clapton played on Friday, October 20th, at the TD Waterhouse Centre in Orlando, Florida, and his North American tour wraps up on Saturday, October 21st, at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
