Evanescence album debuts at No1
The new Evanescence album, The Open Door, debuted at Number One on Billboard's Top 200 album chart on Wednesday, October 11th, selling 447,000 copies in its first week of release. The disc is the band's first to land at the top of the chart, with 2003's Fallen peaking at Number Three. While some industry insiders wondered if Evanescence could repeat the success of Fallen, singer Amy Lee told us it never entered her mind: "Fallen is a great record, but my only goal making this one was making something that I love even more, that I think is an even better record, and we've definitely done that. This is a real album, and it's sort of like taking a journey, more than just listening to a collection of songs."
Sam's Town, the sophomore CD from the Killers, arrived at Number Two with first-week sales of 315,000 copies. This marked the band's highest chart placement as well as its single biggest sales week.
Also entering the chart this week was Beck's The Information, which racked up sales of 99,000 to land at Number Seven. Meanwhile, Jet's second effort, Shine On, sold 51,000 copies, good enough for Number 16.
