Jet cancels more shows due to vocalist problems
Jet was forced to cancel a number of European shows due to continued complications from frontman Nic Cester's recent bout with laryngitis, according to Gigwise.com. Cester saw a doctor in London last Friday (October 13th), who detected nodules on the singer's vocal chords and recommended more rest and treatment. Cester will now undergo two weeks of care with a specialist and is expected to make a full recovery. The band scrapped two gigs on its recent North American run after Cester first lost his voice.
Bassist Mark Wilson told us that it's possible Cester's throat problems were the result of being overworked: "He's been singing every day for the last, you know, year almost, 'cause we've been in the studio and stuff, so a lot of singing. We didn't really stop between doing the record and then going -- basically the day we finished mixing the record, we went on tour the next day, so there was no real time for, I suppose, for his voice, his throat to sort of heal. It probably just was, you know, sort of a bit overworked."
Cester's brother, drummer Chris Cester, issued a statement which read in part, "There isn't much more I can say than that we're sorry that we've had to do this. Everyone is extremely frustrated, no one more so than Nic."
The group had to cancel shows in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Madrid and other major European cities, from October 14th through the 25th.
Jet is expected to recommence its touring schedule after that, with another Stateside trek penciled in for November.
Shine On, Jet's sophomore effort, arrived in stores on October 3rd and debuted at Number 16 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, with first-week sales of 51,000 copies.
