Keane frontman speaks out on struggle with drugs
Keane frontman Tom Chaplin has spoken out on his recent struggle with drug and alcohol addiction that led to a stint in rehab, according to Gigwise.com. Chaplin was interviewed on England's Radio One after the group returned to the stage in London on Tuesday night (October 17th). The singer said that going into rehab was like "walking to the edge of a cliff and looking into the abyss. You can either jump off or turn round and walk back. Thankfully for me it was the latter."
Chaplin added that he thought people had misconceptions about the experience, explaining, "I think some people have this impression of it as some sort of health spa. But there are a lot of people in there, including myself, with some very serious problems. They're dealing with life and death."
Chaplin also admitted that he's not out of the woods yet, saying, "Drugs and drink and all those things are something that are everywhere now. I have to be aware and be careful of it."
Keane canceled a fall North American tour after Chaplin went into London's Priory clinic to get treatment for his addictions. The trek has not been rescheduled yet.
The U.K. band is now proceeding with British and European dates in support of its second album, Under The Iron Sea.
