Korn includes keyboard player in new songwriting sessions
Korn is including touring keyboardist Zac Baird in the writing sessions for the band's eighth studio album, which began earlier this month in Los Angeles. Singer Jonathan Davis told Rolling Stone about Baird's involvement, "He's doing really cool melodies and very ambient stuff too." Davis told us that Korn likes to experiment every time it sets out to make a new record: "One thing that we've done as we've gotten older as a band is that we've opened our minds to so many different things, and each record we always try to experiment and go down different avenues and different ways so we can grow as musicians. We've always had that open-minded philosophy, like just, 'With each record, let's do what's not supposed to be Korn.' And it's fun. We don't want to do the same record over and over again. They get boring."
Pop songwriting/producing team The Matrix, who worked on Korn's 2005 disc See You On The Other Side, will return for the new album, which the band hopes to release by next spring.
Davis said that a lot of the lyrics on the new album will probably be influenced by his brush with death earlier this year, when he was stricken with a rare and potentially lethal blood disease.
Davis recently revealed that he hopes to embark on his first solo tour in February of 2007, after the band finishes recording its new CD.
A CD/DVD of the band's Family Values Tour is expected out in December.
