My Chemical Romance attempts to write darkest song ever
My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way wanted to write the "darkest song ever" with a track called "Cancer" from the band's new album, The Black Parade. According to NME, Way said in a statement, "It's not a poetic track. It's very direct, very brutal, but that's the way disease is. Obviously cancer is being used as a metaphor, but I also wanted the song to be directly about the disease...For me it was almost like an attempt to write the darkest song ever, and I think we achieved that."
The Black Parade comes out next Tuesday (October 24th).
The album's first single, "Welcome to the Black Parade," entered the British chart at Number One and is near the top of the U.S. modern rock radio charts.
The band will perform on Saturday Night Live this weekend (October 21st) It will also play several East Coast shows at the end of the month in addition to the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans. The group has not announced its full North American tour plans yet.
