My Chemical Romance enlists Liza Minnelli for album cameo

My Chemical Romance has an unusual cameo on its newly released album, The Black Parade. The band got Oscar-winning singer and Cabaret star Liza Minnelli to make a guest appearance on a song called "Mama." According to NME, the New Jersey-band punk rockers wanted a female vocal on the track and had Minnelli at the top of their list. My Chemical Romance vocalist Gerard Way said, "We discussed a woman forever but then I eventually I just did the woman's voice. I was like, 'It just seems like such a cop out.' (Producer Rob Cavallo) said, 'Well, who do you want to get?' and I was like 'We should get Liza Minnelli. Why not?'"

Cavallo called Minnelli publicist Liz Rosenberg, who convinced her client to sing on the track.

The Black Parade came out this past Tuesday (October 24th) and follows up the group's platinum 2004 release, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.

The band played on Thursday, October 26th, in Chicago. On Sunday (October 29th) they play in New Orleans at the Voodoo Music Experience. Full North American tour plans have not been announced yet, although scattered radio festival dates are showing up for late November and early December.
