Pete Townshend proud to have shared Who history with Roger Daltrey
Pete Townshend says that, as the two surviving members of the Who, he and Roger Daltrey have finally learned to actually become friends. Townshend, who's recently gone on record as saying that his relationship with Daltrey is now one of the strongest in his life, told us that he's awed by how much history the pair shares: "The great thing about being out on the road with Roger is that this is a 43-, 44-year relationship. It goes back a long way, maybe even longer than that, 46 years. It's great to have that relationship. But the musical background for it is incredibly varied." October 9th, 2006 would have been the Who's original bassist John Entwistle's 62nd birthday. Entwistle died of a cocaine-related heart attack on June 27th, 2002, on the eve of the band's last North American tour.
Original drummer Keith Moon died of an overdose of prescription drugs on September 7th, 1978. He was replaced the next year by drummer Kenney Jones, who left the band in 1988.
The Who perform on Tuesday, October 10th, in Portland, at the Rose Garden Arena. After that, the Who will wrap up their current U.S. leg on Wednesday (October 11th) in Seattle at the Key Arena at Seattle Center, before heading back to the U.K. for a single London show and a three week break.
On October 31st the band will release Endless Wire, their first studio album since 1982.
The Who will kick off their next set of U.S. dates on November 4th, at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl.
