Rob Zombie's "Devil's Rejects" wins big at Scream Awards
Rob Zombie's second film as a director, 2005's The Devil's Rejects, was named "Best Horror Movie" at Spike TV's 2006 Scream Awards, which were held on Saturday night (October 7th) in Los Angeles and was televised on Tuesday, October 10th. The actors who played the film's evil Firefly family, including Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Zombie's wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, also took home a prize for "Most Vile Villain."
The singer is now beginning pre-production on his remake of the classic 1978 slasher film, Halloween. While some fans feel the movie shouldn't be remade at all, Zombie told us that he hopes his previous horror credentials prove he's the man for the job: "There's a lot of people that are like, 'Oh, that's great, I loved Devil's Rejects, he really understands that '70s vibe, I'm really on his side.' There's other people that, I'm sure, are skeptical of anyone taking on the project on any level. What I'm hoping people understand is, like, a lot of these remakes I think are just, like, directors for hire. But, I mean, I'm really approaching this with the same passion I would approach my own original material. It's not like just, 'Oh yeah, that would be a great job, let me just take that on, who cares.'"
Halloween is scheduled to come out in October of 2007.
Zombie's directorial debut came in 2003 with House of 1000 Corpses.
Zombie's other new film project, an adult animated horror movie called The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, is slated for release on May 10th, 2007.
The 2006 Scream Awards also featured a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who was presented with the "Scream Rock Immortal Award" by Marilyn Manson. The event, which featured a number of actors, horror icons and musicians, celebrates horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic books.
