Sting honoured to join Tony Bennett for duets
Sting makes an appearance on Tony Bennett's new album, Duets: An American Classic, released last week. He joined the 80-year-old singer on a version of the song "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams," which appeared in the 1934 film Moulin Rouge. The former Police frontman told us that he was honored to sing with Bennett: "It was a wonderful privilege. I mean, Tony Bennett's phrasing is so unpredictable and so characteristic. And when you sing harmony with him, you have to try and second guess what he's gonna do. Difficult. But it was great to see the master at work. I want to be that way when I'm approaching that age." Bennett first recorded "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" in 1950.
Also appearing on Bennet's new collection are Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Celine Dion, Michael Buble and others.
Sting's new album, Songs From The Labyrinth, comes out next Tuesday (October 10th). It's his take on the songs of 16th century musician John Dowland.
Ex-Police drummer and composer Stewart Copeland recently came out with a DVD documenting the trio's career through touring and concert footage. The film, called Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out, was written and directed by Copeland.
