Sting takes a break from his own songs with new album

Sting's new album, Songs From The Labyrinth, came out last week, featuring his versions of songs written by 16th century composer John Dowland. Sting told us that it was a relief to cover somebody else's material: "It took a huge chunk out of my normal process, which is having to sit down and write words, melody and harmony. I didn't have to do that. It was all written down. So in a way, it was simpler. Obviously there were some technical issues -- just singing the songs, for example, making it sound like a record as opposed to just a recital. But I would say a good half of my normal process was missing. It was refreshing not to have to do that. Not to have that burden. You know, the stuff was already there."

Sting teamed up with lute player Edin Karamazov on the set.
