Styx to release CD&DVD with youth orchestra next month

The performance Styx did with a group of teenaged orchestral musicians in the spring will be released on CD and DVD next month. The show, recorded on May 25th at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, saw the band play with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra (CYO) of Cleveland under the banner "One With Everything," and it featured full-on symphonic arrangements of hits like "Blue Collar Man," "Too Much Time On My Hands," "Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)," "Renegade," and Styx's cover of the Beatles classic "I Am The Walrus." There are also two new songs that Styx wrote for the occasion, titled "Just Be" and "Everything, All The Time." The One With Everything: Styx & The Contemporary Youth Orchestra CD comes out November 7th, while the DVD follows on November 21st.

Styx singer-guitarist Tommy Shaw told us that he still gets emotional about how well the show went: "You know how when you get into a project, and you start looking -- you're taking the magnifying glass to it, and, you're... you know, after a while, you kind of get desensitized to it? This particular one, I'll go back and look at an edit of something and see it all coming together, it's goose pimples, and your eyes starting to get a little moist."

The One With Everything concert will also air in high definition on November 19th, and details should be announced soon for a PBS special.

The CYO consists of a 115-piece orchestra and a 50-person chorus, with all the members aged 13 to 19.

Styx is on a break from touring, and they head back out starting November 16th in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.
