Angels And Airwaves frontman rails against pop songs
Angels And Airwaves frontman Tom DeLonge seems to be interested in putting his past well behind him. In a video clip of his band performing in concert that has circulated on YouTube, DeLonge appears to take a swipe at his former group, pop-punk trio Blink-182, by telling the audience, "I don't want to be in a bulls*** pop band with bulls*** pop songs while you drive your f***ing bulls*** car and sing along to it like you're some 14-year-old girl." Apparently wary of alienating at least some of his fans, DeLonge then proceeds to apologize to any 14-year-old girls who might be in the audience.
Blink-182 split up in February of 2005, with DeLonge forming Angels And Airwaves while Blink bassist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker started Plus 44.
Hoppus has slammed DeLonge in the press recently, saying his "selfish nature" destroyed Blink. He told us that Blink "started feeling less and less like a band...we told Tom that we felt that way, so Tom quit."
Plus 44 will release its debut album, titled When Your Heart Stops Beating, on November 14th.
The band begins its first North American tour on November 8th in Tampa, Florida. The dates were postponed for a month after Barker broke his arm.
Angels And Airwaves plays on Friday, November 3rd, in Las Vegas as it continues promoting its debut album, We Don't Need To Whisper.
