Arctic Monkeys singer starts side project
Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has formed a new band called the Rascals, according to Virgin.net. The side project will make its live debut on December 1st at a pub called the Korova Bar in Liverpool, England. There is no word on whether Turner plans to go into the studio with the group, or what kind of music they'll be performing. The singer has been working on material for the second Arctic Monkeys album, which is planned for release sometime in 2007.
Arctic Monkeys have not set a date yet to return to the studio. The quartet's next album will follow up its 2006 debut, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, which was released to critical acclaim in the U.S. and near-hysteria in the U.K.
The CD sold more than a million copies in England and won the country's prestigious Mercury Music Prize earlier this year.
Arctic Monkeys also walked away with two Q Awards last month in London for Best Album and People's Choice.
