Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead team up with Buena Vista Social Club

Hits by Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead and others get the Cuban treatment on Rhythms del Mundo, a new album released last week by the Buena Vista Social Club. According to Undercover News, the collection was assembled to raise money for the Artist Planet Earth charity, which supports taking action to end climate change and global warming. Among the songs on the album are Coldplay's "Clocks," Arctic Monkeys' "Dancing Shoes," Radiohead's "High And Dry," Jack Johnson's "Better Together" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2. Many of the songs are either collaborative efforts between the artists and the Buena Vista Social Club musicians.

Also included are songs by Franz Ferdinand, the Kaiser Chiefs, Sting, Maroon5, Dido and others.

The album was recorded in Cuba between April 2005 and June 2006.

The Buena Vista Social Club was the name of a members-only music club in Havana, Cuba that was made famous by a film and album released in the late '90s.
