Green Day launches anti-oil campaign

Green Day has teamed up with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) for a new campaign called Move America Beyond Oil. According to FMQB, the initiative's goal is to "mobilize and empower music fans to demand clean, renewable energy solutions that break our dependence on oil." Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement, "This campaign is about channeling the power of millions into something positive and powerful. People are sick of our oil addiction and feel like nobody is doing anything about it. The solutions are there, the support is there, but the leadership is not."

The online site for the campaign is greendaynrdc.com. Visitors can see video messages from Green Day and send messages to political and corporate leaders through the site.

The studio version of Green Day and U2's collaborative cover of the Skids' "The Saints Are Coming" appears on U2's hits collection, U218 Singles, which comes out on Tuesday, November 21st.

Two early independent albums by Green Day, 1991's 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and 1992's Kerplunk!, are being re-released by the band's current label, Reprise Records, on December 19th.

GreenDay is currently at work on the follow-up to 2004's American Idiot.
