Gregg Allman not backing any politicians this election season

There's political talk everywhere you turn as the upcoming election gets closer, but don't expect to hear any from Gregg Allman. He and the rest of the Allman Brothers Band were big supporters of Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign in the '70's, but Gregg isn't backing anyone this year. He told the Bradenton, Florida, Herald, "It's slim pickings. I don't know what the hell is going on. The Democrats can't make up their mind and I always followed that path... Bush, he should have kept his ball team and stayed out of politics. We all would've been better off."

George W. Bush put together a group to purchase the Texas Rangers baseball team in 1989, and he became the team's managing general partner. He resigned his position in December 1994, before being sworn in as governor of Texas, though he kept his ownership stake in the team.

Allman says he's been told that the Brothers raised about a million dollars for Carter. They first met when Allman was invited to a party at the governor's mansion in Georgia in 1973, when Carter was hosting an event in honor of Bob Dylan. After Carter won, the Allman Brothers Band was asked to perform at an inaugural ball.

Allman is on a break from his Gregg Allman & Friends solo tour. They go back out starting November 22nd in San Juan Capistrano, California.
