Hinder singer says they didn't predict "Angel" success
Hinder singer Austin Winkler says that the band hadn't expected the huge success of their latest single, the Number One hit "Lips of An Angel." He says that the song's origins were actually pretty personal, and he is surprised that people relate to it, as he told us: "It's actually a personal experience, I can't remember how long ago it was, but my ex-girlfriend called me in, like, the middle of the night, while my current girlfriend was in the other room. So I'm kind of tryin' to talk to her, and it was a really intense situation, trying to not let her know that I'm on the phone, and in the end, I told (drummer) Cody (Hanson) about it, and the song pretty much kind of wrote itself, and now they're both gone."
He says he liked the song, but didn't realize it had a wide appeal: "I thought it was a really really good song, I thought it was really well written, and very unique as far as it's kind of like a conversation from beginning to end. I didn't know that there would be that many people who relate to it, but apparently there's a lot of people who can relate to that, so, it's pretty nuts."
Their latest album, Extreme Behavior, has sold 1.1 million copies.
The Oklahoma-based band is currently on a headlining run, but will team up with Staind, 3 Doors Down, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin and Buckcherry at different points throughout this month and December.
Hinder will open for Aerosmith on December 1st in Detroit, Michigan; December 15th in Reno, Nevada; and December 17th in Sacramento, California.
