Jimi Hendrix auction blocked by judge
A judge in New York City has blocked a recent sale of music from Jimi Hendrix's catalogue. The Ocean Tomo auction house sold the rights that have been claimed by the estate of former Hendrix manager Michael Jeffrey to an anonymous bidder for $15 million. But according to the New York Daily News, Manhattan Federal Court Judge Lewis Kaplan blocked the sale last week because the Hendrix estate claims the ownership issue is in doubt. Jeffrey was supposed to pay the Hendrix family a lump sum of $50,000 in 1973 for the rights to 33 master recordings, but the family claims that Jeffrey and his estate have no claim to the music because the money was never paid.
