Mick Jagger's father dies at 93
Mick Jagger's father, Basil "Joe" Jagger, died on Saturday (November 11th) from pneumonia at the age of 93. UPI reported that Joe Jagger was admitted to a local hospital near his home in Surrey in the U.K. after suffering a fall in his home. On Friday, Mick had flown to Britain from the U.S., where he is on tour with the Rolling Stones, to spend time with his dad before heading back to the States to make the band's performance in Las Vegas.
Joe Jagger was a retired physical education teacher and was married to Jagger's mother Eva for 59 years, until her death in 2000. In addition to Mick, the couple had another son, Chris Jagger, who is also a musician.
Joe Jagger appeared in the 2001 ABC-TV special Being Mick, which included a clip of him and Mick watching one of Mick's daughters in a soccer match. In 2003 Joe accompanied Mick to Buckingham Palace when Mick was knighted for his "services to British music."
A Stones spokesperson said that Joe Jagger would be buried at a private funeral, but would not comment on whether Mick would perform as he had for his mother's service.
The Rolling Stones perform on Tuesday, November 14th, in Nampa, Idaho at the Idaho Center.
