Paul McCartney hits New York City, drops in on "Saturday Night Live"

Fans have been lining up in New York City since Friday (November 10th) to meet Paul McCartney today, during an autograph signing this afternoon. McCartney will meet fans for 90 minutes at the Times Square Virgin Records store beginning at noon, and will be signing copies of his new classical CD Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart), and his concert DVD Paul McCartney: The Space Within Us, which will be released on November 14th.

McCartney made a surprise guest appearance on Saturday Night Live (November 11th) this weekend. He appeared at the end of a sketch featuring Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, and Martin Short in the fictional "Platinum Lounge" for returning SNL guest hosts. Baldwin, who was guest hosting this week and who is also featured in McCartney's new DVD, seemed to be genuinely shocked by McCartney's appearance, which was greeted by wild applause.

Macca hung around till the show's ending, and was seen kissing musical guest Christina Aguilera during the cast's signoff.

The clip can be accessed by logging on to nbc.com/saturday_night_live and selecting "Platinum Lounge."

McCartney had last appeared on the show on February 13th, 1993, when Baldwin also was the host. He first appeared on Saturday Night Live on May 17th, 1980, when he and his late wife Linda McCartney introduced McCartney's video for "Coming Up" live from London via satellite.

On Tuesday night Macca will be in attendance when his latest classical piece Ecce Cor Meum receives its North American debut at New York's Carnegie Hall.

In other McCartney news:

Britain's The News Of The World reported that McCartney is offering estranged wife Heather Mills an additional $38 million in their divorce settlement, for custody of the couple's three year old daughter Beatrice. According to a source close to Macca, the additional money would bring the total settlement offer to $191 million.

The source, said to be the same insider who recently revealed details of Mills' violence towards Macca, said that the former Beatle is most concerned about losing access to his daughter, explaining that, "He is worried (Mills) will slowly cut him out of his daughter's life and he couldn't bear that. Paul wants the divorce and custody of Beatrice settled in a one-off transaction. He has told Heather, 'It's simple; I get Beatrice, you get your money and that's it.'"

Mills' attorneys have gone on record stating that the McCartney has yet to offer her any type of divorce settlement.
