Radiohead singer calling for stricter fishing laws
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has called for stricter fishing laws to keep fish from becoming extinct, according to Virgin.net. In a post at the official Radiohead web site, Yorke wrote, "Supermarket demand for fish (not that I eat fish or meat) has meant we are fishing to extinction. What I find particularly offensive are the enormous nets they use that drag everything up. Supermarkets should be made to source their fish responsibly and governments should act in the interest of our future to regulate for sustainable fishing -- not this mass production/destruction shit."
Yorke added that he "respects" people's right to eat fish, but says that every time he watches his bandmates eat seafood, "I quietly wonder how it's arrived. and what was destroyed and killed or thrown away to get it."
Yorke also revealed that the band had "a good week in the studio" last week. Radiohead has spent much of the last year sporadically working on its seventh studio album, with recording sessions becoming more urgent in the last couple of months.
