REM, Neil Young featured on Bridge School downloads
Neil Young has begun releasing some of the live recordings from his annual Bridge School benefit concerts through iTunes. He's got six volumes of music, and the first one is available now, with 80 tracks by artists including Young doing "Cortez The Killer" with the Dave Matthews Band; Crosby, Stills & Nash doing "Just A Song Before I Go" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes"; R.E.M. doing "Everybody Hurts" and "The One I Love"; and Billy Idol doing his "Rebel Yell," as well as covering the Buffalo Springfield classic "For What It's Worth." Future volumes will include Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, the Pretenders, Green Day, and Metallica, among many others.
All proceeds from the sale of the music will go to The Bridge School, which was co-founded by Young's wife Pegi. The institution uses music therapy and other alternate methods of communication to reach people with severe speech and physical impairments. Young's son Ben, who was born with cerebral palsy, was a student at the school.
Young recently released a vintage Crazy Horse concert from March 1970 titled Live At The Fillmore East 1970, as well as the raw tapes from this year's Living With War album. He's also got a Living With War CD/DVD combo in the pipeline for December 19th that includes the raw recordings and videos for every song on the album, along with footage from the war in Iraq, from demonstrations here in the U.S., and from the Al Gore documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
