Rolling Stones to gross $500m with A Bigger Bang
The Rolling Stones' A Bigger Bang tour is officially the top-grossing tour in history. Since August 2005, the classic rock band has grossed $437m, playing 110 shows in front of 3.5 million fans. In addition, an estimated crowd of 2 million saw the band perform at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro back in February. The tour, like every Stones trek since 1989, is produced by Michael Cohl under the Concert Productions International banner, with Live Nation.Their success comes despite the tour being dogged by delays and cancellations when guitarist Keith Richards fell from a tree while on holiday in Fiji as well as throat problems for lead singer Mick Jagger.
Though no one's commenting officially, talk is that the Rolling Stones will stretch their concerts into 2007, meaning that a final tally of more than half a billion dollars is easily in range.
U2 previously held the record with Vertigo that grossed $377m.
