Smashing Pumpkins leader debuts new songs in low-key show
Smashing Pumpkins founder and frontman Billy Corgan debuted several new songs at a low-key show with Who guitarist Pete Townshend on Tuesday night (November 7th) in Los Angeles, according to NME. The gig, held at the Hotel Cafe, was organized by Townshend's girlfriend Rachel Fuller and also featured performances by Eels frontman E, Minnie Driver, Townshend's brother Simon and Fuller herself. Corgan did not announce the titles of the songs, nor did he reveal any details about the new Smashing Pumpkins album, which is in the works.
Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin was also in attendance but did not play.
Fuller and Townshend have assembled several such shows around the country during the Who's latest U.S. tour.
Corgan announced the reactivation of the Smashing Pumpkins last year. Aside from himself and Chamberlin, it is unknown whether original guitarist James Iha, original bassist D'Arcy Wretzky or latter-day bass player Melissa Auf der Maur will be involved in the project.
No release date or title has been revealed for the new Pumpkins album.
