Styx changed plans for Contemporary Youth Orchestra performance

Out now is the One With Everything album, which features Styx performing with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra (CYO) at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The CYO had worked with rock musicians before, but this was the first time they'd ever taken the stage with a full rock band.

Guitarist James "J.Y." Young told us that Styx had a much different vision of the One With Everything show than did CYO leader Liza Grossman: "I think perhaps she just was looking for an acoustic performance, but we said we wanted to do a full-blown electric thing, and every other time she'd done this before, it had been in a small setting at Cleveland State University, which is where she sort of functions with the youth orchestra. But our manager, in his grand vision, said, 'Let's go out and do it at the summer home of the Cleveland Symphony, which is Blossom' -- which we've done many a rock show there, as well."

The CYO had previously taken the stage with Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek; Graham Nash; Pat Benatar and her husband, guitarist Neil Giraldo; and Yes vocalist Jon Anderson.

Styx resumes their touring schedule on Thursday (November 16th) at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.

Footage from the One With Everything concert will begin airing on HDNet beginning Sunday (November 19th), and on PBS in December. The full One With Everything DVD comes out next Tuesday (November 21st).
