Triumph announced for Canadian Music Industry Hall Of Fame

Triumph will be inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall Of Fame this spring. The band is being honored with songwriter and producer David Foster during the Canadian Radio Music Awards, which take place March 10th at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto as part of the annual Canadian Music Week.

Making things even more special is the fact that singer-drummer Gil Moore and bassist-keyboardist Mike Levine will reunite at the event with their long-estranged partner, singer-guitarist Rik Emmett, though there are no plans for a reunion. Instead, there will be a video montage with highlights from the band's career. Emmett said, "This is about honoring good memories of the past, and respecting the spirit of fans and industry friends."

Levine told us that he's satisfied with Triumph's legacy: "I never thought about the historical part of Triumph, like whether we should have a place in history. We were never that band that had the huge hits -- we were that band that everybody came to see, and got played on album radio a lot. And, you know, I'm very happy with that, and very comfortable with that."

Emmett left Triumph in 1988 to start a solo career, and there have been unpleasant words between the two sides. Emmett still performs some of the Triumph hits in his own shows, but he's had virtually no contact with his former bandmates in recent years.
