Yoko Ono calls for December 8th to be worldwide day of healing
Yoko Ono, widow of John Lennon, took out a full-page ad in the New York Times on Sunday (November 26th) to call for the anniversary of her husband's death to be a worldwide day of forgiveness and healing. Ono wrote: "Every year, let's make December 8th the day to ask for forgiveness from those who suffered the insufferable."
To victims of violence and warfare, she wrote: "Know that the physical and mental abuse you have endured will have a lingering effect on our society... Know that the burden is ours."
She also wrote that she does not know if she is yet ready to forgive her husband's murderer, Mark David Chapman: "I don't know if I am ready yet to forgive the one who pulled the trigger. ... But healing is what is urgently needed now in the world."
