ZZ Top honoured by Texas Recording Academy
ZZ Top were saluted by their own people on Monday, November 13th, when the band was noted by the Texas chapter of the Recording Academy. Drummer Frank Beard, singer-bassist Dusty Hill, and singer-guitarist Reverend Billy F. Gibbons were at the Austin Convention Center Ballroom to pick up their Recording Academy Honors, which are given to "outstanding individuals whose work embodies excellence and integrity and who have improved the environment for the creative community."The bandmembers have always been modest about their success and their ability to stay together without any lineup changes. Hill told us that two things have kept the band going -- their love for performing together, and a healthy sense of humor: "The thing is, we enjoy playing together, working together on stage. That's the bottom line. There's probably a lot of other reasons, but that's gotta be the main one -- the music. And I think, basically, Billy and I just dig hanging out with Frank."
ZZ Top has been working on a new album for some time, but there's no word on when it might be released.
The event also honored Southwest Music Festival co-founders Nick Barbaro, Louis Black, and Roland Swenson; hip-hop label Swishahouse; and gospel music star Yolanda Adams.
