Aerosmith bassist cancer-free and eager to return to work
Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton had to miss the band's fall tour with Motley Crue because he was recovering from treatments for throat cancer, but he's raring to get back to work. In a posting on the aeroforceone.com website, Hamilton wrote, "The cancer's gone... I had a P.E.T. scan about a week or two before (Aerosmith's December 3rd concert at the Beacon Theatre in New York City), and it showed that the tumor and the cells in the adjacent lymph gland were gone. I never really experienced the disease, but the treatment is something I hope I never have to experience again. It truly sucked."
Hamilton made two guest appearances with the group while he was recovering, but the Beacon was his first full show with the band since early March, and he said, "I knew I was good to go and I hope the show that night proved it. I had a great time as did everybody else. It was an amazing feeling and made me reflect on why I've wanted to do this so bad ever since I was in junior high school."
Hamilton added that he'll be back for the European tour Aerosmith is planning for the spring, but he admitted that he's not at 100 percent yet and there's still some "doctor stuff to take care of."
Aerosmith also plans to release a new studio album next year.
