Deftones troubles didn't inspire album, says DJ

Deftones went through one of the roughest periods of the band's career while making its latest album, Saturday Night Wrist. The band switched producers three times, halted recording for a while, and even considered replacing singer Chino Moreno with a new vocalist. Although the band finally got its act together, DJ Frank Delgado told us that he doesn't think all the turmoil provided fuel for the album: "It's a scary thing to say, like, that turmoil and all that drama creates creativity, 'cause then you start thinking, 'Oh, I need to go through this.' That's not a good way to think, you know what I mean? And it's just being five dudes who have to live together and be creative together and then, you know, that's the headspace we're at with that music at that time, instead of being, like, 'Well, we have to have this certain turmoil to create.' That's not a good way to think."

The Deftones are currently touring North America in support of Saturday Night Wrist. The Sacramento-based act plays on Friday, December 8th, in Chicago.

The group will head to Europe, South America and the Far East in early 2007 before coming back to North America in the spring.

Saturday Night Wrist debuted at Number 10 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart and has sold 136,000 copies since its October 31st release.

The Deftones will also be featured on the Family Values Tour 2006 CD and DVD, which are both due out on December 26th.
