Killers approached for next James Bond theme?

Have the Killers been approached to write and perform the theme song for the next James Bond movie? The answer is yes according to British tabloid newspaper The Sun, which is not exactly known for its accurate reporting. A source allegedly told the paper, "The Killers have reached the perfect point in their career to do a Bond track. They have the right sound, the right look and a huge fanbase, making them the perfect choice." The Bond producers enlisted Audioslave vocalist Chris Cornell to pen "You Know My Name" as the theme for the latest 007 flick, Casino Royale.

The Killers recently connected with the film world by having director Tim Burton shoot the video for their latest single, "Bones." Frontman Brandon Flowers told us that he wouldn't rule out getting more involved with movies in the future: "Maybe when I'm older it would be fun to be in front of the camera, but for now we're just, we're so busy and I think we talk about doing movie scores and things like that. That would be a lot of fun, I think."

Casino Royale, which opened last month and introduced Daniel Craig as the British agent, is on its way to becoming the highest-grossing Bond film ever. Even before the movie opened, the producers announced that the next Bond picture, rumored to be titled Risico, will come out in November of 2008.

The second Killers album, Sam's Town, was certified platinum this month for sales of more than one million copies.

The Killers released a Christmas song last week on iTunes called "A Great Big Sled." One hundred percent of the proceeds from sales of the track will go to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The Killers wrap up their 2006 live work on Friday, December 15th, in New York City and Saturday (December 16th) in Philadelphia. The group will appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on the 18th.
