Korn drummer takes temporary hiatus
Korn drummer David Silveria is taking a "temporary hiatus" from the band, according to a press release issued on Wednesday, December 13th. Silveria said in a brief statement, "I just need a break for right now," giving no indication of when he might return. Singer Jonathan Davis, bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu and guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer will continue to write and record the band's eighth studio album, although it has not been revealed who will play drums during the current recording sessions. A source told us that Silveria will not be contributing to the new album.
Silveria's hiatus comes 22 months after the band parted ways with guitarist Brian "Head" Welch, marking the first personnel change in Korn's history. Welch left the group in February of 2005 to devote his life to Christianity.
The new Korn album is tentatively slated to arrive in June of 2007 and will follow up last December's See You On The Other Side.
Korn performed an acoustic set on Saturday (December 9th) at the MTV studios in New York City for an episode of MTV Unplugged. The show is expected to air sometime in February, with a CD release planned for that month as well. Evanescence singer Amy Lee and members of the Cure made guest appearances at the taping, which Silveria did not attend.
A CD and DVD of the 2006 Family Values Tour, which featured Korn, Deftones, Stone Sour and others, will arrive in stores on December 26th.
