Korn "not breaking up" says Jonathan Davis
Korn frontman Jonathan Davis has posted a message at his personal blog insisting that the band is not splitting up, following the news that drummer David Silveria was taking a "temporary hiatus" from group activities. Davis wrote that Silveria "really needed to take a break, he was very burnt out. He will not be on this record or tour but will be back for the next one, if ready. Until then we will have a fill-in drummer. We are NOT breaking up, this is not the last album. Everything is fine, this is only temporary." Davis added that he, guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer and bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu are taking a holiday break before continuing work on the band's eighth studio album, saying, "(The) album is going good, (we) have about eight slammin' songs done. We start writing again after the New Year. Very excited."
Korn performed an acoustic set on December 9th at the MTV studios in New York City for an episode of MTV Unplugged that will air in February. Evanescence singer Amy Lee and members of the Cure made guest appearances at the taping, which Silveria did not attend. Davis said about the show, "The Unplugged was insane. I never thought in my wildest dreams I would share the stage with the Cure."
Silveria's hiatus comes 22 months after the band parted ways with guitarist Brian "Head" Welch, marking the first personnel change in Korn's history.
The new album is tentatively slated to arrive in June of 2007 and will follow up last December's See You On The Other Side.
A CD and DVD of the 2006 Family Values Tour, which featured Korn, Deftones, Stone Sour and others, will arrive in stores on December 26th.
