Muse to play historic UK stadium
Muse is the first band to announce a concert at London's historic Wembley Stadium, which has been closed for renovations since 2000. The June 16th, 2007 event will be Muse's first headlining stadium show and follows the international success of its fourth album, Black Holes and Revelations. Muse drummer Dominic Howard told Billboard.com that the show was "a huge step up" for the band, adding, "It's something we've dreamed of in the past, and now definitely seems the right time to do it. It's going to be amazing, overwhelming."
Frontman Matthew Bellamy told Billboard that the band had tentative plans to make the show into a mini-festival and possibly an annual event, with at least three other groups on the bill.
The stadium was originally supposed to reopen this year but was hit by massive construction delays. The problems forced several concerts by Bon Jovi, the Rolling Stones and others to be relocated.
The newly refurbished venue is expected to hold around 75,000 people. The original Wembley was the site of numerous historic sports and musical events, including Live Aid in 1985.
Muse, a superstar act overseas, is currently on a European arena tour and playing to an average of 12,000 people a night.
