Sammy Hagar to be honoured for promoting tourism

Sammy Hagar is always extolling the virtues of Mexico, and specifically the town of Cabo San Lucas, where his Cabo Wabo Cantina is located, and now he's being honored for spreading the word. Hagar will be saluted on Tuesday, December 5th, by Los Cabos Mayor Luis Armando Diaz, who is also the Secretary Of Tourism of Baja California Sur, for promoting the region. Hagar will be the Distinguished Guest of the Municipality of Los Cabos, where he will be the first-ever foreigner so honored. It's all part of the week-long Rhythm, Color, And Taste festival, and proceeds from the event will go to the Red Cross and to the Los Cabos Fire Department.

After discovering Cabo San Lucas, Hagar wrote the song "Cabo Wabo" for the 1988 Van Halen album OU812. According to the lyrics, "There's a sleepy town that's south of the border/You go there once, you'll be there twice."
