Slash posts update on Velvet Revolver album
After months of relative silence, the members of Velvet Revolver can't seem to stop talking about their new album. Following posts by drummer Matt Sorum and interviews given by singer Scott Weiland, lead guitarist Slash has posted an update on the recording of the band's sophomore effort, tentatively titled Libertad. The former Guns N' Roses axeman wrote, "Hey, just wanted to let everybody know we are almost done with basic tracks. Everything is moving along quite nicely. We should be releasing this CD in May, if everything goes the way it's supposed to."
Weiland spoke to MTV two weeks ago regarding Libertad, calling it "a really inspired rock and roll album."
The band is recording the album with producer Brendan O'Brien, who's worked with Audioslave, Pearl Jam and Weiland's former group, Stone Temple Pilots. An initial stint with producer Rick Rubin did not work out, for reasons still left unexplained.
Weiland was a featured guest on this past Monday's (December 18th) edition of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, where he performed a "jazzy" version of the holiday standard "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas." Footage of the performance is now online.
