Staind taking break in 2007

Staind plans to take an extended break following the arrival of its newly released greatest hits collection and the completion of its latest tour, according to Billboard. Singer Aaron Lewis said, "Everybody needs some time off. I like to try to make sure the surface is clean. You've got to let all the build-up from being on tour and playing the same songs over and over again go away and have a clean slate to start over with so we don't repeat ourselves."

Lewis added that the band has no plans to begin work on its sixth studio album, explaining, "We've been around for 10 years and made five records...I don't think there's anything wrong with slowing that down just a little bit and giving people a little bit of an opportunity to miss what we have to offer."

The vocalist will keep busy personally, with a solo tour beginning on December 27th and a possible solo album in the works. Lewis said that his solo stuff will sound more like Staind hits such as "It's Been Awhile" and "Outside," while he'd like to see Staind on its next record "go back to being the heavy band that you get to see if you come and see us live."

Staind's new compilation, The Singles: 1996 - 2006, has sold 42,000 copies since coming out on November 14th.

The band performs on Tuesday, December 5th, in Lafayette, Louisiana and completes its roadwork on Sunday (December 10th) in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
