U2 collection soars, Rock Star fizzles on album chart
A major hits collection and a highly-hyped reality TV band debuted on this week's Billboard Top 200 album chart on Wednesday, November 29th. U2's latest compilation, U218 Singles, landed at Number 12 with first-week sales of more than 134,000 copies. The set was bolstered by the inclusion of the group's collaboration with Green Day on a charity cover of the Skids' "The Saints Are Coming," along with a brand new song called "Window In The Skies."
Meanwhile, the self-titled debut from Rock Star Supernova, the band built around Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke and now-departed ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, landed with a thud at Number 101, selling less than 17,000 copies. The group was assembled for the second season of CBS-TV's Rock Star series, in which it selected Lukas Rossi as lead vocalist.
Other notable rock debuts included metal act Killswitch Engage, whose new As Daylight Dies arrived at Number 32 with sales of 60,000 copies, and P.O.D., whose Greatest Hits: The Atlantic Years proved not so great at Number 152 with sales of 10,000 copies.
