Velvet Revolver frontman on Leno tonight
Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland will be a featured guest on tonight's (Monday, December 18th) edition of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, according to NBC.com. The show airs nationally from 11:35 p.m. to 12:35 a.m. ET. Weiland will perform a "jazzy" version of the holiday standard "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," backed by a stand-up bass, some violinists and a grand piano during his appearance, according to Blabbermouth.net. The singer is also planning to release a studio version of the tune, which he has recently been recording. Weiland spoke to MTV last week regarding Velvet Revolver's second album, Libertad, which is now being recorded after months of false starts. The vocalist said that he hasn't been "this excited about a rock record since 1993," calling Libertad "a really inspired rock and roll album."
The band is recording the album with producer Brendan O'Brien, who's worked with Audioslave, Pearl Jam and Weiland's former group, Stone Temple Pilots. An initial stint with producer Rick Rubin did not work out for reasons still left unexplained.
Velvet Revolver plans to release Libertad next spring. Weiland is also working on his second solo album, which he hopes will surface in the fall of 2007 on his own label, Softdrive Records.
