Allman Brothers side projects keeping the band to limited schedule this year
Gregg Allman says side projects will limit the amount of shows the Allman Brothers Band plays this year. The Allmans will play their regular "March Madness" residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York City in the spring, but Allman told us that there won't be the usual number of shows during the summer: "We're doing the Beacon this year, and then we're doing one tour leg in August and September, and then past that, the Brothers are off to go do, you know... see, everybody has their own band on the side. You know, we get together every year, and we don't plan out the year, but we see, you know, how much time we got."
The Beacon Theatre run takes place from March 22nd to April 7th.
Allman wrapped up a tour with his Gregg Allman & Friends side project on Sunday, January 21st, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Allmans singer-guitarist Warren Haynes also leads Gov't Mule; guitarist Derek Trucks has his own band, and he's also been on tour with Eric Clapton; bassist Oteil Burbridge has his own group; drummer Jaimoe leads a jazz band; percussionist Mark Quinones performs and does sessions with a number of artists; and drummer Butch Trucks has a lot of things going on, including his Moogis online venture that will webcast the Allmans Brothers Band shows from the Beacon.
