Beatles stamps a huge success in the UK

Britain's newly-issued Beatles stamps are a runaway success. The international demand for the stamps, which feature such iconic Beatles album covers as Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Abbey Road, may break records set by stamps related to the royal weddings, and have already smashed the record for Queen Elizabeth's 80th birthday stamp last year.

The Royal Mail's Julietta Edgar said that, "Judging by the unprecedented response we have already received from collectors and the public, the Beatles' (stamps) is on course to be the best selling issue internationally. We chose to celebrate the Beatles because of their contribution to the world -- and that popularity has been demonstrated by the interest this stamp issue has received across the globe."

John Lennon and Yoko Ono's son, Sean Lennon, will be featured on an upcoming Traveling Wilbury's tribute album due out on January 30th. Chartattack.com reported that the new collection, titled Strumming Wilburys, will feature Lennon, along with such rockers as Cheap Trick, Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, and Everclear, tackling songs from the supergroup's two albums.

Among the songs set for Strumming Wilburys include "Tweeter And The Monkey Man," "Handle With Care," "End Of The Line," "Last Night," and "Congratulations."

The Traveling Wilburys included George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, and Tom Petty. The group released two albums -- 1988's critically acclaimed Vol. 1, and 1990's Vol. 3, which was recorded and released following Orbison's 1989 death.

Harrison's widow Olivia Harrison told us in an exclusive last year both Traveling Wilburys albums will be re-released this year, with bonus tracks and a newly compiled DVD of footage taped during both album's sessions.
