Billy Corgan posts Smashing Pumpkins update

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has posted an update at the band's MySpace page, promising that a new album and tour will both arrive in 2007. Corgan did not provide any details about either, instead writing, "This year for us will see a new album of songs and a world tour of tears, and we truly look forward to playing again for fans young, old, and missed. So yes, tunes are being dusted off, while others are being asked to kindly submit to an upstart millennia and all it's asking...When we opened the lid on this music box, we were pleasantly surprised at the music that played: familiar yet unknown, welcoming but not sentimental, and that is all we can ask."

Frontman Billy Corgan announced the reactivation of the Pumpkins last year. Aside from Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, it is unknown whether original guitarist James Iha or bassist D'Arcy Wretzky will be involved.

The Pumpkins are tentatively going to perform at "some European festivals" this summer, according to a recent post by the band's webmistress, but she was unable to reveal the exact events as they were "still being finalized."

Four recently leaked tunes, alleged to be new Pumpkins songs, turned out to be fakes posted by a British group called Amy Blue.

No release date or title has been revealed for the Pumpkins album, the first since the band broke up following 2000's MACHINA/The Machines of God.
