Carlos Santana to release "Jazz" album next month
Due out February 27th is a live DVD from the band that guitarist Carlos Santana and jazz saxophonist Wayne Shorter toured with almost 20 years ago. The Carlos Santana/Wayne Shorter Band played 26 shows across the U.S. and Europe, and their performance at the annual Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland on July 14th, 1988, will now be available under the title Live At Montreux. The setlist combines material from both Shorter's and Santana's careers, and the DVD, which runs just over an hour, has been mixed in 5.1 Surround Sound.Along with the performances, the disc also has interviews with Santana, Shorter, and Montreux Jazz Festival creator Claude Nobs, the "Funky Claude" mentioned in Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water."
Shorter is an old friend and hero of Santana's, and when they ran into each other on the road in 1987, the idea was hatched for them to work together.
With the exception of a few appearances here and there, Carlos is expected to take off this whole year.
