Chris Daughtry to play free show
Chris Daughtry will play a free concert in Greensboro, North Carolina on March 23rd to help kick off the NCAA women's basketball tournament games. According to the Associated Press, officials expect the gig to attract nearly 7,000 fans and also hope it helps the city's bid to host the 2012 women's Final Four. The show is a homecoming for the 27-year-old singer, who was born in North Carolina and grew up outside of Greensboro in nearby McLeansville. Daughtry fronted a local band before landing a spot on American Idol and told us that it was tough to break out of the scene: "Being that I had a family and my bass player at the time had a family, financially we just couldn't go out and tour and get our names out there. So we just had to basically play the same old clubs over and over for mostly the same people. And when you do that you just don't get the exposure and the buzz that you need to make a name for yourself and get people to pay attention."
The American Idol star's band, called Daughtry, released its self-titled debut album in November.
